Nolan Patrick, the second pick of the 2017 NHL Draft, appears to have retired at 25 after years of battling a migraine condition.

No official announcement has been made, but reports of his retirement surfaced Tuesday on Instagram, when a hockey coaching program revealed that Patrick has been hired as a skills specialist and video coach.

Patrick is referred to in the post from The Power Play as a ‘retried pro with significant NHL experience.’

The Winnipeg native has not played in a game since 2022, when he was a member of the Vegas Golden Knights. Patrick became an unrestricted free gent in June and has not resurfaced in the NHL.

Spokespeople for the NHLPA, the players’ union, did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for confirmation.

The Philadelphia Flyers selected Patrick with the second pick in 2017 following a decorated junior career with the WHL’s Brandon Wheat: 41 goals, 61 assists in 72 games.

He went on to play parts of three seasons with the Flyers and another with the Golden Knights, tallying 32 goals and 45 assists in 222 games.

Private and often quiet with reporters, Patrick resisted calls to discuss his migraine issues to the media.

‘I’m not going to get into too much detail on how my head feels,’ Patrick said as he returned to the ice in 2021. ‘I’m going to see how camp goes and go from there.

‘It’s obviously mentally tough whenever you’re injured, watching,’ he said at the time. ‘You want to be out there. It’s obviously a tough injury that affects you mentally more than other ones would. But hopefully I get back here soon.’
