On September 7, 1993, Ryan Smith, a cornerback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League, was born. He was chosen by the Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He played collegiate football for the North Carolina Central Eagles.

Despite redshirting his rookie year, he played in all 11 games, starting 8 of them. With 65 total takedowns, Smith finished his rookie season as NCCU’s second-leading tackler. He also finished second with three interceptions and third with eight passes defended. Smith was selected for the College Sports Journal’s Freshman All-America football team for the Football Championship Subdivision.
